Review: Fuuka E.04

By Dustin Cabeal

Yeah, I’m done reviewing this show. This episode’s pacing is deliberately slow. It lingers to the point of being annoying, and it’s all to build the love triangle. Which spoiler, doesn’t fucking matter in the end. The love triangle is a façade, and so it’s even more perplexing that they’re focusing on it so much. Unless they plan to ignore the biggest event of the series, which if they do will ruin the point of the show.

This episode is also strangely, the closest to the manga. It’s just that it’s paced slowly as it shows Yuu and Fuuka have a falling out and then confess to each other in a way. It’s also the first time we hear Fuuka sing, and it’s the shit fuck song from the opening, so that was a disappointment.

I’m so disappointed by the decisions the animators are making with this show. The pacing has been terrible, the aspects from the manga that they're focusing on are only minor points in the story, and the music has been terrible. Terrible.

I keep saying this, but the manga only established a few lines of a couple of songs, the rest was a blank sheet of paper. There are comedic animes with half the budget that are getting better bands for their show and doing an incredible job with that. Meanwhile, I still don’t know or care who is making the music for Fuuka, because it’s dated and generic. It could be from any anime in the 90s it’s that bad. Granted, the band was supposed to be popular then so it could fit, but then it should still be iconic and not generic.

I’m struggling to find the desire to watch this show, yet alone review it. If there’s an episode that surprises me, I might pick up coverage for it again. In the meantime, this is where the reviews stop. Hopefully, I’ll get through at least one more episode before giving up on watching it. As a fan, though, this show is the most disappointing anime I’ve watched in a long time.

Score: 2/5
