Review: ID-0 E.01
By Dustin Cabeal
The problem with checking out every new anime show possible is that eventually, you run into something like ID-0. Something that I have zero interest in ever watching again, mostly because I’m not even sure who it’s geared towards, if I had to guess, I would say tweens, which I am not.
The story is extremely simple. Everyone is out in space mining for some special Ore shit, to do so they use robot bodies and zap a copy of their mind into the body. A young girl who’s new to her job gets intentionally abandoned by her team and ends up trapped in her body… then picked up by pirates… who won’t bring her to her body without her paying them, but they’re nice people.
It’s a kids cartoon if I’ve ever seen one. The pirates all cool and misunderstood, I’m sure they all have a tragic backstory just waiting to fill an episode. It alluded that the pirates are all trapped in robot bodies or ID’s as the title suggests. There is a military presence and a lot of water-downed Gundam ideas.
The voice acting is pretty basic. The main character’s catchphrase is “sorry,” and the rest of the cast is so typed cast, that you can tell their character just from hearing them talk. It’s competent acting, but it’s nothing even remotely new or good.
The animation is all 3-D, which had I known beforehand, I would have skipped to high hell. Thankfully we only have to see shitty 3-D people for a pinch here and there, the rest of it is spent with the robots. There was some 2-D at the beginning for just a moment… it was short, but the best part of the art for sure.
ID-0 (that’s a zero by the way), will haunt my anime dreams. When I see a show this terrible, it does stay with me for a while. It blows me away that something so generic will make it the entire season and that it will have a fanbase. I suppose if you like pirates or 3-D animation… or shitty robots with human minds, then you’ll like this show. If not, then don’t waste your time since it’s now wearing the crown for the worst anime I’ve seen all year and I saw one in which a girl turned into a jet to save a hat. Also, the end song is in English, and the lyrics make zero sense if that’s something you want to experience then go for it, but maybe just search youtube for the song first.
Score: 1/5
