I’m back! And this week I’m ready for my third shot of Moonshine, which is published this week by Image Comics and produced by writer Brian Azzarello and artist Eduardo Risso. I’m not really one for review three straight issues of anything, I get bored quite easily but so far it hasn’t happened with this book. I actually look forward to reading it and if you read my first review of Moonshine you’ll know I’ve had the first three issues in my possession since before the first issue even came out. I’ve held off reading it and I’m semi-glad I did because I would’ve had to wait a couple of months for issue four which would’ve killed me. 

I talk far too much shit introducing these book… Let’s see what I thought of issue number three.

Well… It might be early days for this series, but I think this may be my favorite issue yet. I thought the opening was pretty damn cool and fuck it, I’m going to say the whole damn thing was pretty damn cool. I’m fully submerged in this world now and I’m in it for the long haul. And can you blame me? We’ve barely seen any werewolf action yet, a key element of this series and it’s still a shit load better than the majority of any book out right now. You can’t fault it.

Brian Azzarello is on top form with his writing here. The issue he’s scripted is gritty and his style and vision shines throughout it. It’s one of those books that you can feel the awesomeness coming from the pages and with every page turn, you get another wave of emotion that washes over you as the story is unfolding. He’s an expert storyteller and this is a great example of why he’s one of my favorite writers. The short version would be that it’s fucking great issue and you’ll enjoy it.

The art continues to be great with some lovely panels in this issue from Eduardo Risso. I think there’s some of my most favorite yet from him. I’m really liking this series on a whole for the style and the imagery, Eduardo absolutely fucking nails the violent aspects and the blood and guts of it all with some fantastic panel arrangements and angles. There’s one scene in this book in particular that I really liked and it’s just of one guy taking a piss. I know that panel was probably down to it being in Brian Azzarello’s script but I really got a kick out of the execution of it and seeing it in there brought a smile to my face… Lovely work on the art and I’m still really liking the color scheme being employed in this series. It sets the mood and it works great.

So there you have it, I enjoyed it and I think I’m going to continue to enjoy it until the series is finished. It’s a very likable book and it’s very easy to get pulled into. I hope you’re enjoying the series so far and I hope you’ll join me in supporting these creators and this series by buying the book. If you missed the first two issues, download them from [any of those sites where you pay money for digital comics and not just that one I always mention] or, lucky for you, Image re reprinting the shit outta their books right now so you should be able to pick up a second or third printing somewhere… Go get it.
