Object 15 is an art book. There’s no story, and the theme is pretty loose. It’s also amazing to look at and very inspiring. There might not be a story per se, but I did enjoy creating my own stories based on the illustrations.

There is one illustrator that clearly influences Kilian Eng the most, but I won’t say who because I imagine that: A) you’ll figure it out upon first glance; and B) every other review out there is going to go for that low-hanging fruit and it’s completely off subject.

Eng’s artwork is very “European” looking. I find that term annoying and useful because it does give you an instant idea of what the artwork looks like, but in the same vein tells you nothing at the same time. I will always find it interesting that countries seem to produce a house style of sorts that’s continued over generations.

There’s an earthy theme to Object 15. Trees and stone run across the entire work, and it makes it alien and yet familiar looking. The rest of the theme is futuristic and some of the best illustrations I’ve seen in years. Truly Kilian Eng is very talented.

For an art book, this is fantastic. I don’t know if Eng is a storyteller, but I would be interested in any comic work they did in an instant. And if not, then I’m happy to create my own worlds and stories based off of Eng’s work.
