Worst of 2016: Marvel in General

By Dustin Cabeal

Since I read a lot of new DC titles this year I figured it was only fair to check out any of the many first issues that Marvel manages to publish monthly. Not to my surprise, I disliked it all. Every series I tried made me wonder who the fuck they were writing for. Who is this audience that’s enjoying this mediocre crap?

Everyone is constantly wondering when the next comic bubble is going to burst. People talk about variant sales being bad for the long term and we wonder if the industry can survive another burst. Well, I’m here to tell you that you should only worry about Marvel. 2016 produced a lot of shitty comics, no joke there. Most publishers produced shit and in ample amounts, but none more than Marvel. And yet they dominate the sales market until DC did Rebirth. But did people really buy it? Or was it all variant purchases and other shady ass tactics that they pull month in and month out? I guess we’ll see, but I had to include them on my list.

I only stayed with two books of theirs and the rest I bailed after one or two issues. I think that says more about their entire slate. Oh, and just to fuck with you all, this includes Vision as well. Just because the rest of their titles is shit, doesn’t make this thing golden.
