Review: Thomas Alsop #7

Can I tell you a secret? Issue three of this series has been my personal favorite. As much as I’ve loved and enjoyed the other issues none of the subsequent issues have topped that reading experience… until now. I honestly didn’t expect that to happen, but this issue made me smile the entire time I read it and when I was finished I let out a resounding “God dammnit that comic is good.”

Review: Southern Bastards #6

Southern Bastards is a comic that sneaks up on me with every new story arc; Jasons Aaron and Latour make me think it’s going to go one specific place, and then they take it in an entirely different (but completely legitimate) direction. And worst of all, they make me care about these gnarled old fuckers from Craw County, the brilliant bastards.

Review: Sinergy #2

Sinergy’s second issue is the back half of what would have been a pretty interesting first issue. After an issue of seeing her do largely nothing, we still see Jess do mostly nothing, but she at least gets involved in some action (not that kind of action, you pervert, that was last issue).

Review: Bitch Planet #1

Kelly Sue DeConnick’s Bitch Planet was, from the moment of its announcement, a contentious title; in name, of course, but also because it followed fresh on the heels of Alex de Campi’s incredible Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight issues three and four (published exactly a year ago), which contained the “Prison Ship Antares” storyline that riffed on similar exploitation themes, and was also set in space.
