By Laramie Martinez
Simon Spurrier. Kelly Matthews. Nichole Matthews. Those names should already tell you the level of quality you’re going to get with this book. The Power of the Dark Crystal #1 is set after the events in the movie The Dark Crystal. But you don’t need to see the film to understand what’s going on here its premise is handed to you at the beginning of the issue. For me the setting was only vaguely familiar as I did watch the movie as a kid, but it’s been several years since I had seen it. I was expecting a lot of fan service, little winks and nods to the audience like what you see in most movies or comics which lean heavy into nostalgia. I’m happy to report this book doesn’t do that. It feels like a fresh story that just happens to take place in the Dark Crystal Universe.

First and foremost, I’m enjoying reading new manga. It’s just extremely interesting to me to see what’s new and if it can make it in the long haul. I will again be focusing on half of this issue due to trade reading and lack of interest… One Piece.
Read MoreImage Announces Blind Boxes For 25th Anniversary
By Dustin Cabeal
Ah man... I should have been consulted on this. I would have done used pairs of Kirkman's underwear. Dick pics from the Sex Criminal creators. A picture of someone's Savage Dragon tattoo, with permission to copy the tattoo on your body as long as you put a "limited 2/2" somewhere near it. A signed original copy of one of Eric Stephenson's "comics, you're all at fault" speeches. A lawsuit settlement check for $1.00 from Todd McFarlane preventing you from suing him in the future. The ideas are endless, but you can see what Image decided upon for their 1,992 blind boxes... which are more of mystery polybags, but I guess that was harder to market or something.

By Dustin Cabeal
Don't get me wrong, I'm curious about this graphic novel. Here's the but, BOOM! has been announcing a lot of Hollywood writers on their comics and that's disheartening. Even when I didn't love something the publisher published I always respected the fact that they were still heavy on the comic book development side of the business. The broke in new writers and artists yearly, but now... from the writer of Legally Blonde, from the co-creator of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. It's like they're patrolling the back lots of Fox looking for writers. I'm not excited by this because it's starting to look like a trend. We'll see, ECCC is just around the corner.
Read MoreTwo Words: Tradd Moore - Preview Venom #150
By Dustin Cabeal
It might just be a page, but fucking hell is it a good looking page. I would read all kinds of Venom with Tradd Moore on the series. Too bad there wouldn't be a story worthy of his talent, but we'll see what Costa's got. Also remember when Brook had cancer and the symbiote could only do one more bond and Spider-Man tricked it into bonding with Brock and sentenced both of them to death? Yeah, me neither I guess.

The art says "buy me," but the writer's credits say "pass." I'm not going to lie; I'll read this because more than likely Image will provide us with a copy to read. Gun to the head I wouldn't buy it, though, Liefeld's got enough cash, why give him more? Doesn't matter who's actually doing the work.

I've been waiting to talk about this animated short from Noodles Studio. Frankly, I love the look and design. They've released their 12 minute proof of concept film that was premiered at Sundance, for free. Now, they are asking for support, and if you like what you see, you can head over here and support them a couple of different ways. If you like animation, then you should definitely check it out and consider kicking them a few bucks if you can. Otherwise, just enjoy the film, I did and would like to see more Black Holes or at least more from Noodles Studio.

Is it a manga? An anime? What the fuck is this property other than just pin-up art that's taken on a life of its own? I do not understand what Hatsune Miku is and I don't really care to find out. But I'm sure someone let a little pee out at this announcement, so you're welcome or something.
Read MoreReview: Rough Riders: Riders of the Storm #1
By Dustin Cabeal
Originally, I was going to read and review the first volume of Rough Riders prior to reading the new series. That was before I decided to read and mini-review every IDW title this week. I didn’t want to miss out on the new series, and so I did what I’ve done a hundred times before and start a series on the second volume.
Read MoreReview: The Few #2
By Jonathan Edwards
By the end of The Few #2, my overall impression of the series had changed somewhat. Now looking back, the first issue kind of feels like more of a prologue than the actual start of the story. It moved kind of slow, and, more than anything else, it provided setup for certain characters and circumstances so they can be easily developed in greater detail later. But at the same time, it doesn't feel like a requirement to read in order to pick up and understand this issue. Anything really integral to the story is reiterated, and Lewis does a fine job working it in without it feeling too clumsy.

The Big Bad Fox was everything I thought it would be. I called the ending by the tenth page, but I also realized that it didn’t matter that I knew how it was going to end. What mattered was whether the story could still be good despite me knowing where it was going. I’m happy to say, that it was better than good, it was great.

Read MoreThere Can Be Only One: IDW Publishing (2/22/17)
By Dustin Cabeal
I’ll be honest, I’ve avoiding doing this for IDW because I don’t enjoy the majority of their titles and didn’t want to suffer through them. I figured that this was a good week to go through them all since they had so many new titles and one of those new titles is Highlander, which is where the title of this review derives.
