The Last of Us Remastered PS4 Bundle Is Heads To Europe
Earlier in the week, Amazon France outed the existence of the PS4 bundle for €429.99 or $585 USD and listed with a release date of July 30, 2014. Now the trend continues and as The Playstation Eroupe Blog has stated that there will be a PlayStation 4 bundle with the 500 GB console and the remastered edition of Naughty Dog's critical darling, The Last of Us. It will be released in Europe next month for €429.99 or $586 USD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmP2QLKJFr0
This is some pretty awesome news. I've been looking for a good reason to pick up a PS4, so I hope this deal comes to the States. There is a Second Son PS4 bundle out but fuck that game and there's a Destiny bundle coming September 9th for $449 USD ( with a white console, which looks awesome) but I think The Last of Us is the real clincher.
The Order: 1886 - The Evolution of the Half-Breeds
One of the E3 games that caught my eye was The Order: 1886. It had a cool look to it and even though it was a third person shooter for the most part, it still looked really different and just fresh. Maybe I just like werewolves. The publisher released a video talking about the werewolves aka half-breeds and it's pretty interesting to hear them talk about it, a lot of thought went into this game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI0nLoMIvK8#t=107

Here's July's Games With Gold For X-Box
Rather than stretch this out I'm going to keep it simple. There's three games between the two systems (X-Box 360, X-Box One) and as usual one will be available for the first half of the month and the other for the second half on the 360. Also as a quick reminder on the X-Box One, the games are subscription based so you can only play them with a Gold subscription and that started last month.
X-Box 360
- BattleBlock Theater (July 1-15)
- Gotham City Impostors (July 16-31)
X-Box One
- Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition (Starting July 2nd)
Adorable Poseable Street Fighter Plushies!
Look at these little guys! So angry and yet so lovable. I'm on a huge Street Fighter kick at the moment thanks in part to Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist and then picking up Super Ultra Street Fighter 4 for free on X-Box 360. Playing as Evil Ryu and Oni has never been so much fun! Ryu, Ken and Chun Li are the only three available, but for $20 bucks they're not bad. You can get one here.
Cosplay: Female Clone of Wolverine aka X-23
I've always been a big fan of X-23, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit to seeing some lazy ass cosplay for the character. KO Cosplay nails it. The costume, here's the key thing, looks like the comic book. Just wearing black and holding claws is like cosplaying as leisure X-23 and that's nothing special. So good job KO Cosplay.
This Is The Best Black Cat Cosplay Ever
Foxy Rogue you are officially the only cosplayer allowed to do Black Cat anymore. I can't enforce that, but it'll remain true in my heart always. This photoset it awesome. Simply awesome.
CG Warhammer 40,000 Teaser Will Make You "Need Another Pants"
It took that headline from the YouTube comments because it made me laugh. I can just picture someone shitting themselves and instead of changing pants just writing a note while they continued to watch the trailer. This is a fanmade CG project. They had a three years back and so this is like an update saying "We're still rocking on this." The people behind this are actually making a feature-length film... just because which is the best reason to do anything. Check out the new and improved trailer below, along with the older trailer after. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjaYW5Cnr5k#t=74

Do Want: Eric So's Marv From Sin City Vinyl
Wow I totally saw these pictures on the net last week or even later and thought that it was just a homemade custom job. If I had known that it was an official product coming from Dark Horse I would have been all over it. This vinyl is very cool and captures a bit of the movie's flair, the comics style and designer Eric So's own vision. It's very cool so check out the pictures and the details from Dark Horse below. From Dark Horse:
The masters of two mediums come together with an all-new, limited-edition vinyl figure of Sin City’s beloved brute, Marv! This unique interpretation of Marv was created by Eric So, a master of modern design and a leader in the Hong Kong designer-toy movement. With the guidance of Frank Miller, So has sculpted a thirteen-inch vinyl figure that is unlike any that has come before it.
While best known for his groundbreaking toy designs, Eric So is also an accomplished designer in many other areas, such as men’s fashion and accessories. He is a legend in his native Hong Kong, and has made a name for himself worldwide.
In the same spirit as his previous collaboration with Dark Horse (a vinyl figure of Mike Mignola’s Hellboy) or his Nike-commissioned statue of Michael Jordan, So favors a humorous and cartoonish approach over realism. While Marv is depicted in his customary trench coat, he has been transformed through Eric So’s unique approach to angles and features. Still, the influence of Frank Miller’s signature style shines through.
Each figure is individually hand painted and comes with a pack of band-aid stickers, which collectors may affix to Marv as they like. Also included is a certificate of authenticity, signed by both Frank Miller and Eric So.
“Besides the figure itself, the packaqe is innovative and fun” noted Dark Horse vice president of product development, David Scroggy. “Eric has come up with a gray translucent plastic blister that is the flat front of the box. The Marv figure inside is visible in silhouette. The outer surface is over-printed in white, creating the illusion of a shadowy Marv walking in the snow. This was inspired by Miller’s classic Silent Night story. It is a striking package design.”
Frank Miller is widely acclaimed worldwide for his comic work and boasts multiple Hollywood successes, including two adaptations of his masterwork, Sin City. Marv is one of Sin City’s most memorable characters, in both comics and film.
This beautiful thirteen-inch piece will be produced in a limited run of 950 and will arrive just in time for the release of Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Mark your calendars for September 10, when this figure goes on sale for $150.

Activision Is Making A Legend of Korra Video Game That Looks Quite Good
One day I'm actually going to watch all of Avatar: The Last Airbender and then move on to Legend of Korra because frankly the series seems right up my alley. This game also looks right up my alley and way better than the Airbender game that was on the X-Box 360 which took a total of five minutes to get all 1,000 achievement points. I was kind of looking forward to the same here until I saw the game art. Looks great. It looks way better than an Activision game based off a Nickelodeon cartoon show should look. The game is being developed by Platinum Games so you know that the action is going to kick all kinds of ass. It has a cell-shaded look which I'm a huge fan of and the story takes place between the second and third season of the show. Below you can check out some screen shots, some cover images that you can vote for (here). Look for the downloadable game this fall.
Here's A Trailer For The PS3 Godzilla Game
I have no idea why this is exclusive to the PS3, but from everything I'm seeing... it is. To be frank... it looks shitty. There's a tease of the new Legendary Pictures Godzilla at the end of the trailer and you see about as much footage of the creature as you do in the new movie. I'd love a good Godzilla game, but something tells me this isn't it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=293_s53gLUo#t=21
Review: Dream Police #3
The world of the Dreamscape gets further exploration in this third issue. Particular details such as the color hue of the realm being affected by Fashion Week in the waking world make for interesting elements. Unfortunately, the featured characters policing the world don’t feel as interesting anymore. The same possible threat haunts Detective Joe Thursday. At this point I don’t know if that poses a greater danger to the overall Dreamscape because there is no imposing sense of dread. With only an immediate suggested threat to Thursday, the sense of drama does not feel heightened.
The overall storyline does not feel like it advances at all with this latest issue. If JMS did interweave some form of a governing plot element into this chapter, he did so with such clandestine effect that readers won’t be able to detect it.
Joe still suffers from images of a man claiming to be his partner. Meanwhile, he investigates a “Code Red”: a Dream Policeman roughing up a dreamer to the point of instigating mental damage.
Sid Kotian makes the Joe’s visage too similar to other characters. For instance, when Joe sneaks a peek into the “Black Files,” someone comes to notify him that an eyewitness may assist in the investigation. The two look so similar that some confusion may arise. Also, Joe Thursday’s facial expressions are indecipherable; I cannot tell if he’s taking a huge dump or losing his mind.
The investigation wraps up with Kate (Thursday’s partner?) adding some needed clues. Meanwhile, the audience with more unanswered questions: Is there some great plot tied up with the man claiming to be Joe’s former partner? If so, why aren’t we given better clues to understand the implication?
I hope that the crime in the last issue and the one in this issue connect in some way to make a great conclusion that will leave readers cheering the people behind the pages. For now, readers get a standard crime book with uninspired crimes in a slightly interesting environment.

Review: The Mercenary Sea #5
I missed reviewing last month’s issues; I just didn’t have the time, but I will quickly say that it was another solid issue from this creative team. This issue is kind of strange. It has this great climax, but it ends early and begins moving into the next story line almost instantly giving it a strange transition. It almost steals its own reward by doing this, but even with that it’s an entertaining issue due to the heavy amount of action. If like me you’ve been waiting to see action really pop off in this series then you won’t be disappointed. Our team of mercenary’s descends upon the Japanese camp to free the capture women that were taken for “comfort.” It’s a noble cause so you really don’t feel bad for the guy smoking that gets his throat slashed and left to bleed out. From there the team systematically takes down the base until being spotted. They don’t let that stop them though as they ramp up their take down of the base and free the captives and return them to their stronghold. So back to the sub right? Noooope.
It’s an entertaining issue and the action is picture perfect. It’s also easy to follow due to the animated style from Mathew Reynolds. I swear this story is begging to be animated with Reynolds at the helm. The shift in color hues is always a treat to see. His perfect thick greens for the daylight and his light purples for the night give the book a distinct and stylized look. I read this book twice, once for the story and once for the art… but not necessarily in that order. Reynolds is one of my favorite artists I’ve discovered this year and I’m glad to see his art hold consistently at this level of quality.
As I said this issue feels like a transition issue. It’s not really because the second half of the book does continue an aspect of the arc, but it makes the story uneven in this issue. I’m not worried about the series because writer Kel Symons is clearly writing it with an end game in mind. It’s just that this issue stumbles in its setup for the next issue.
Really this issue is worth it just for the action scene it opens with. I’m still scoring it pretty high because man oh man is the art good. If you’re following the series then keep plugging along, with the way this issue ends there’s only going to be more action and adventure ahead for the series so don’t miss out.

Review: Sovereign #4
Having jumped on this series with issue #4, it was clear that the comic was doing some back tracking. The whole issue read like a first issue. Sure there were some things that I didn’t get, but all in all it opened with a back story, the introduction of characters and laid out a pretty decent conflict to follow. I don’t know if it was planned or if the comic sucked at doing this in the first three issues, either way I read it with an impartial approach looking forward to seeing how the plot unfolded. We enter a new world with Sovereign, and I love when comics build new worlds or us. For me, I think this issue built a pretty capable world. Although that worries me that the other issues didn’t. I am not sure I understand it all, but it seems there are many trees of life out in the universe. The other worlds have magic, dragons, demons, and so on. Some of these worlds end because of the clear destruction its inhabitants create. They call these ages epoch and when battle wages on a Convergence happens ending their age. The first part of the three part comic talks about this history. It even brings up some worlds that have ended and why. Again, it is a good opener and definitely lays out the story for you. I am not sure I got all of it, but I think the full understanding will come with time.
We then roll right into our new world. An old man is warning the King of dead bodies coming back to life. These dead are powerful and will soon take over. The town must revert back to their old rituals in order to handle the dead. This old man is a Luminari, a caretaker of the dead. Of course the King and his advisors all have a different approach to handling the man. Suddenly the dead are coming though and their best bet is to close the gates until they have come up with a plan.
Now we enter the second part of the story titled Invaders. Here we again debate the next step that should be taken. Then we roll right into the third story about a Seer. She can see the reality in her mind where others cannot. She tells one man of what will come next and he is frightened.
I like how the comic has three different stories. It shows the effect of the problem on a wide range of people. I think the story needs some clarification because it is very hard to enter a new world and know exactly what the author is doing with each moment. We will obviously never understanding completely how the author meant it to be, but with good writing we can try. I think if I fully understood the world, I would enjoy the reading more. I am not giving up on the comic as there were some points I really liked. My favorite story was the shortest one about the Seer. She intrigues me and will probably intrigue most readers. She has a lot to say not only about what is to come but about herself.
Even though the comic could improve, I think the potential outweighs the faults. Sovereign did a clearer job getting their world across in issue #4 and if they are willing to help out the audience with insight into the comic then I think it is worth a read.

Review: Undertow #5
I’m going to start off by telling you once again how sad I am that this is the second to last issue of Undertow, especially after how this issue ends. I was shocked. Physically shocked because I can’t see how there’s a clear wrap up to this story arc with just one issue left. I’m sure there will be because writer Steve Orlando has shown that he’s more than a capable storyteller. I’m just going to jump to Anshargal and his men hunting with Gelal. They manage to climb the mountain after some difficulties and come upon what Gelal calls his hunting ground. They spot some Wooly Mammoths and Gelal goes in for a kill instantly, feeling sucked into the battle the three Atlanteans make their own plan of attack to bring down the Mammoth. Obviously in order for the story to progress they need to kill the mammoth and that’s what they do. The respect the animal and then share a moment with Gelal that was actually pretty cool.
That’s all I can safely say about the story because this is a pretty important issue that shouldn’t be spoiled. The true opening had some of the best dialogue of the series and continued to paint a picture of the history and depth of the world that Steve Orlando has created. That is definitely one of Orlando’s greatest strengths, his dialogue. Every conversation is interesting no matter how simple or the subject matter.
I’m going to miss seeing Artyom Trakhanov’s artwork each month. He’s definitely a breakout talent in the industry this year. His style is distinct and visually everything he does draws your eye in. You want to study the page and soak in all the details. His Wooly Mammoths were bad ass and that entire scene said so much about the characters without saying a word. This is sequential art at its best.
I’m looking forward to the next issue even if it’s the last in the arc/volume. I’ve been looking forward to how this series ends and I’m expecting it to be good. Landings are tough to stick, but so far the creative team has been amazing. Let’s just hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next volume.
