With Sun Bakery heading to Image Comics, you’ll likely see it on everyone else’s list next year. For me, the first three issues of Corey Lewis’ anthology were some of the best I read in comics this year. Not only was it impressive that he was writing and illustrating an anthology all by himself, but that each of the stories was more than worth reading on its own. Any one of them could be a breakout solo series, but Lewis’ desire to keep it together just showed how indie it was.
To give you an idea of what you’re missing out on, one of the stories is a Metroid homage, but slapstick and funny. The other is about a vampire skateboard rider fighting against the man, and the last is about swords and forcefields. All three are very different, but each amazing in its own way. Check it out when you can, but hopefully, 2017 will bring new Sun Bakery for us all to check out and enjoy.
