Mads Mikkelsen To Star In The Dark Horse Graphic Novel Adaptation “POLAR”

Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange, Rogue One) will star in the noir action thriller, Polar, set in the gritty underworld of political assassins. Award-winning Swedish director, Jonas Åkerlund (Lords of Chaos, Spun, Beyonce’s Hold-up, Lady Gaga’s Telephone) will direct this adaption of the acclaimed Dark Horse graphic novel Polar: Came With The Cold by Victor Santos, from a screenplay by Jayson Rothwell. Constantin Film’s Robert Kulzer (Resident Evil) and Bolt Pictures’Jeremy Bolt (Resident Evil, Death Race) will join forces with Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson (Hellboy, Dark Matter) and Keith Goldberg (Umbrella Academy, The Legend of Tarzan) to produce, with Martin Moszkowicz executive producing. Mister Smith Entertainment announced that it is debuting the feature to international buyers at the upcoming 2017 American Film Market.

A hard-boiled detective, a femme fatale, lies, and government corruption. Santos’ first part to Rashomon was previously published only in Spain, here we have both parts published by Dark Horse. Part one is a straight murder mystery. The second part is a murder mystery but backdropped, and part of, the forty-seven ronin story.

Review: Violent Love #7

Up until very recently I had never read a single issue of Violent Love. Before I read this issue, issue #7, I binged the first trade and also issue #6. It was a book I was aware before that, but for some reason I never went to it. I think it maybe had something to do with the "romance" part of it, but I don’t know. I'm not big on romance comics. But I was definitely drawn into the Bonnie and Clyde vibe of it after I got into it. Even though, still, the romance part is very minimal. I can feel it building between the two character, between Daisy and Rock, but I just don't get the feeling that it's ever going to be a huge piece of the story. If I had to guess on their great romance, I would say that I can see it being like an M-80 (or something), all build-up, followed by a quick and loud and hard explosion, and then that's it. I don't know. Maybe. We will have to wait and see while this story continues to unfold. This is a review of issue #7 of Violent Love by Frank J. Barbiere and Victor Santos.

Something tells me that when Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were robbing hardware stores in East Texas, they weren’t doing it because it’d make a good story. Likewise, when Charlie Starkweather and Caril Fugate were torturing industrialists in Lincoln, Nebraska, they didn’t do it so in the early ‘90s people would make a couple counter-cultural films about them.
