Read MoreWell... I like the creative team. Sorry if I have some reservations because it's BOOM! Sure we can lie and say it's Archaia still, but it's not and hasn't been for a while. Hence the single issues, the generic trades and all that stuff that Archaia didn't do, but probably should have. Anyway, the creative team is interesting and for that reason I'll check it out.
Read MoreWow, this is a long time due. I'm new to android so I didn't even realize that Viz hadn't invaded the platform. Get your Jump on android people.
Read MoreHaving already read and bought Scooter Girl, it's highly unlikely that I'll pick this up, even if it's colored. But, if you've never read Scooter Girl this is a great opportunity to do so.
Read MoreIt’s been an interesting ride with Doctor Muscles. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this series has been the creator’s ability to capture a past era’s storytelling, without making it feel dated. I have said in my last two reviews that Doctor Muscles looks and feels like a story that would have been extremely popular in Heavy Metal Magazine back in the eighties. The setting and look play heavily into this, but the key thing is that it doesn’t read like an 80s comic. I recently read a comic that was attempting to read and feel like a 60s TV show and accomplished that goal. The problem was, it was fucking terrible for it. That is why Doctor Muscles succeeds because it doesn’t try to be an 80s comic.
Read MoreNaoko Takeuchi, creator of Sailor Moon, and Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare have partnered to help promote the detection and preventions of STIs.
Read MoreLet me give some background info on this project before you get all excited about the names attached to it. This series is old, but it never finished. Seriously, the first three issues released in 2011 and basically launched the careers of Jason Latour and Chris Brunner. But they never finished the fucking thing. They did three out of the four issues at 12 Gauge Comics and then blew up and worked on other shit, mostly for the big two.
Read MoreThat's right Bastards! We got bastards left, right and center. We're the "Comic" Bastards and we're supporting "Star" Bastards which is an indie comic I previously reviewed and talked about on the CBMFP. I had a minor issue with the first issue, but after my review creator Andrew Clemson took it to heart and made a change that I think made the book better.
Read MoreHere's a high concept for you. Motorcycles on drugs. Pricks the old ears up, don't it? However, that seems to be the Image publishing model right now, not so much selling us stories as much as idea fragments that are as abstract as they are catchy. Image adverts don't have to sell you a compelling story, rather relying on the cover copy that comes off like free association word salad. “A comic about beatnik elves, a time-traveling ocelot, and Lyndon Baines Johnson with a chainsaw.” I blame Manhattan Projects for this.
Read MoreWhat comes to mind when you see the words ‘cheating’ and ‘craft’? These words on their own have very distinct meanings but combined they formulate one unique definition. Next, try to visualise what the title Cheating Craft could suggest. I am willing to bet that whatever preconceived notions or thoughts you had about this anime show, this anime show is guaranteed to flush them down the drain or drastically flip them over.
Read MoreIf you're into comics and you like Warren Ellis, then you probably already subscribe to http://orbitaloperations.com/ which is his weekly newsletter. If you don't, then you missed the gem below. He also cleared up the DC's imprint WildStorm is actually called "The Wild Storm." I actually found that to be just as interesting as the artwork by Jon Davis-Hunt. Also, fuck, that art is great!
Read MoreThe biggest rager in the galaxy is thrown in this issue of Joyride! How? Oh simple, a giant space whale who has transcended into the 8th dimension was freed by Uma way back in issue #2 and acts like a teenager, so it obviously throws a planet-sized party for the three teen adventurers. And as they are, they behave like teens at a house party. Some of them fit right in, and others just wander and lean on walls awkwardly.
Read MoreI don't really like posting previews anymore. None of you look at them, but occasionally one will grab my attention. This one is because of the art by Joëlle Jones and the story by Mariko Tamaki. In that order because I looked at the art first. The title is strange. I can't decide if I love it or hate it, but I'm leaning towards love. Anyway, read the preview, don't, I don't care. I'll be checking out this series.
Read MoreListen, I, like a lot of people, really enjoy Rat Queens. Writer/Creator Kurtis Weibe was thrown a major curve ball and unfortunately the series has never been consistent since. It's unfortunately, but it's off and on with new artists so damn often that I don't even know what to think anymore. Maybe it'll work out with Owen Gieni, let's hope.
Read MoreBlack Hammer # 5 is a bold departure from what we’ve seen of the comic so far. In a lot of ways it’s what you would expect from the family’s strangest character. From the structure of the plot to the layouts of the pages themselves, this issue breaks the mold to create a jarring departure form the narrative. In the end its flaw isn’t in what the creators do differently, the problem stems from what stays the same. Keep reading to find out what that is.
Read MoreI went into Ether #1 cold. I knew Matt Kindt was writing it, but I had no idea who the artist was or even the premise of the comic. I have to say, it’s nice when you get lucky and stumble on a good comic. Part portal fantasy, part scientific detective story, Ether is a promising series showcasing the strange talent of writer Matt Kindt and far out style of David Rubin.
Read MoreAlright Tokyo Ghoul anime fans, this is where the manga and anime go their separate ways. Obviously, anyone that’s familiar with Tokyo Ghoul has probably watched more of the anime than the manga at this point since the ninth volume just released last month, and the anime already has two seasons in the bag. I didn’t know when their path split, but now I do; volume 9.
Read MoreThere are a lot of random cookbooks this year. I recently looked over two for review, but couldn't muster anything to say about them. But a Pokemon cook book... I already have plenty to say.
Read MoreYesterday we were all excited about Oni's $1 issues and cheaper trades. Today, Kirkman's practically telling you to steal his comic. Just wait a week and go into your comic shop and as them for a left over copy, then it's free! Too bad none of the other Image peeps are celebrating this way... kind makes it look like Kirkman is the only one to care about the Publisher turning 25. I can't wait until they're 28, married, thinking about kids... maybe they'll get a dog first.
